Transitioning into Grade 1 is a significant milestone in the CBC. While Pre-Primary was about "readiness" and "exploration," Grade 1 marks the start of Lower Primary. Learning becomes more structured, and for the first time, subjects like English and Kiswahili are treated as distinct, formal learning areas.
Language Activities (English & Kiswahili)
- English: Moves from sounds to reading short stories and writing full sentences.
- Kiswahili: Building the foundations of "Kusoma na Kuandika".
Mathematical Activities
- Adding and subtracting two-digit numbers.
- Recognizing Kenyan currency (money).
- Telling time by the hour.
Movement and Creative Activities
- Developing sportsmanship and skills like kicking a ball toward a target and rhythmic skipping.
- Art techniques like "crayoning," "collage," and "paper folding" to create specific items.
- Learning and performing Kenyan folk songs.
